MORGANTOWN, WV – The Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee has passed a resolution calling for the immediate resignation of West Virginia State Senator Mike Maroney, R-Marshall, following his multiple arrests and legal troubles.

Senator Maroney, representing Senate District 2, has been arrested three times during his tenure for alleged acts of moral turpitude. In the resolution, the committee acknowledges the principle of innocence until proven guilty but raises significant concerns about the senator’s ability to continue serving effectively and maintain public confidence.

“While the legal process must take its course, the perception of impropriety and the repeated legal entanglements surrounding Senator Maroney have brought discredit to the West Virginia Senate,” said Ethan Moore, Chairman of the Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee. “We believe it is in the best interest of Senate District 2 and the state for Senator Maroney to resign, restoring public trust and the integrity of the Senate.”

The resolution highlights that Maroney’s legal troubles have severely limited his ability to carry out his duties, including casting votes on critical issues and representing his constituents, effectively leaving Senate District 2 down one vote.

In the event that Senator Maroney refuses to resign, the committee strongly urges Governor Justice, as part of the call for any future special session, to enable Senate President Craig Blair and the West Virginia Senate to take necessary actions to expel or censure Maroney for disorderly behavior in accordance with Senate rules.

“The people of West Virginia deserve representatives who uphold the highest standards of conduct,” added Moore. “If Senator Maroney is unwilling to step down, the Senate must be enabled to act to preserve its integrity and protect the interests of our citizens.”

The resolution will be forwarded to Governor Jim Justice, Senate President Craig Blair, West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Matt Herridge, and the chairpersons of the County Republican Executive Committees representing Senate District 2.
